CSX A&WP Sub Line tour
East Point
East Point is the location of the split between the CofG and the A&WP. It is also the location of NS’s industry yard which is home base to several local jobs as well as NS’s Roadrailer terminal. Click here for more information in the NS Griffin District tour (link coming soon)
For the rest of the tour, you will be following the railroad south, on Hwy 29. There are many places to photograph trains traveling north and south. The quality of the shots depends on if it is morning or afternoon, as well as the time of year.
College Park
College Park is the first town on the line after the route splits from the CofG in East Point. The tracks here run parallel to the MARTA North South rail line which both pass right through Downtown College park. Downtown offers several good photo opportunity’s including those of trains passing the historic restored depot. College Park is literally at the end of the runway and just south of town you can get some good shots of trains with a plane passing overhead, requires lucky timing but not that hard since Hartsfield is one of the busiest airports in the country.
CSX Q237 heads past the South end of the old College Park passing track, which is no longer used for meets.

Red Oak
Just a few miles south of College Park, there is a passing siding, it is named Red Oak. The north end does not allow for photography due to trees and other growth where the locomotives are stopped in the siding. If you are takingĀ photos here at the north end use some caution as the this is not too good of a location be be without a buddy. Further down from where the railroad runs across South Fulton Parkway, there is not much to be concerned about other than where you park.
