CSX’s A&WP sub is the railroads primary route between the subs two namesake cities. The line runs east to west, starting at East Point, GA where CSX trains leave the joint NS-CSX trackage and ends in West Point, Alabama. The line handles many trains orginating from the Gulf Coast, in addition to trains from Florida that come up the Fitzgerald Subdivision. The line was built in 1854 by the Atlanta and West Point railroad, which became part of the Georgia group, along with the Georgia RR and the Western Railroad of Alabama. The Georgia group was merged into Seaboard System in 1986.

This line was once shared with the Central of Georgia (CG) for the CG’s passenger train the Man of War, which ran from Atalanta to Columbus, GA. At Newnan the CG took the connection track to the CG line that ran from Chattanooga, Rome,  Breman to Griffen, GA. The line was host to several other passenger trains.

There are numerous locations to take photos along this line. There is a location where the former SCL Manchester sub-division goes under the A&WP about a half mile from the south end of Red Oak passing track.
There are two connection tracks to the Manchester sub as well. The first is a northbound A&WP to northbound SCL located just north of Union City. On the railroad it is named Vaughn Connector. The next is in Union City and it is a southbound version of the Vaughn.

The NS crosses at grade in Newnan, GA. There is remains of a old A&WP coaling tower over the main just south of the diamond.
