GNRR Tate to McCaysville

The line north of Tate passes thru Jasper, Talking Rock, Ellijay, Blue Ridge and McCaysville. When leaving Blue Ridge and heading north, there is a spur track that goes to Mineral Bluff. Back years ago this line went towards Asheville, NC. The track currently goes far as Mineral Bluff. GA and is rarely used. There is a wye there that has a passing track and is used for storage. Back during the very late 90’s and early 2000, there was a rail to logging operation that was ran out of Blue Ridge. That service stopped around 2005.

Current operations are fright from Tate to Whitestone. This is empty open top hoppers used to load marble about the size of railroad ballast. Passenger operations run from Blue Ridge to McCaysville. So that leaves the Whitestone to Blue Ridge portion of the railroad unused for now.
