Fallen Flags of Atlanta

This section will be dedicated to the “fallen flag” railroads that once graced the rails of Atlanta. Some of these railroads include: Atlanta & West Point, Atlantic Coast line, Central of Georgia, Georgia Railroad, Louisville and Nashville, Seaboard Airline, Seaboard Coast Line, and Southern Railway.

In addition to the many railroads that once graced Atlanta rails, there where quite a few mergers that took away from the count of individual railroads.  Such as the creation of the Family Lines System; from there things gradually evolved to Seaboard System and the again later on to CSX. On the Norfolk Southern side of the house, it went from Central of Georgia to Southern then on into NS. There was a time span of approximately 15 years where there was the New Georgia Railroad.  Then there was the period where the NS was running the steam excursion trains in the spring and fall, that will be covered as well.

So please be patient with us as we try to complete this section that will cover all the railroads that once served Atlanta.

Click the logo of the fallen flag you want to view, for simplicity i have broken the list up into CSX and NS Predecessors
